'Spirit of Creativity'

Title:  'Spirit of Creativity' Description:  This internally illuminated glass sculpture is located on two consecutive floors of Campus Gateway, Pfizer. Each panel measures 3m(H) x 2.5m(W) x 40mm(D). They form a single vertical plane inside the building. Toughened float glass forms the structure of the work. This has been decorated with mirror, sandblasting and silkscreened acid etching.
Client:  Pfizer UK
Architect:  CUH2A
Location:  Sandwich, Kent, England

The architectural metaphor of this work is one of both disruption and connection. It is sited across the main circulation routes and is designed to cause contention. A series of unattributed quotations, themed around creativity, form the bulk of the imagery. These quotations were selected through an E-mail workshop that involved the whole work force. They are purposely contradictory and have been anamorphically distorted so that each text is 'legible' from its own point of view. Consequently the viewer can not read the work as a single authority on creativity. They must change position, and see through this information, to understand that creativity stems from interaction, conflict and exchange. Given the nature of glass and mirror the viewer and audience become part of the work.
